Introduction

Fencing is an interesting sport. First, you realise that you’ve never actually used your legs in your life. Then, you spend years learning proper footwork, shedding blood and sweat and incurring perpetual knee pain. Finally, once you feel like you’re getting pretty good, you get destroyed by a kid 7 years younger than you at your first competition.

While I have an amazing ability to cry about fencing for hours, I’m not really here to talk about that.

What’s Going On?

Just wanted to say that I now have Arch on my desktop. Rah!!!

Secret Purpose

In case you didn’t know, I love video games. Maybe a little too much. Every time I do work on my home PC, the temptation of launching DoS2 calls to me like the Green Goblin mask. This was a problem as not only was it a major distraction, it eventually conditioned me to become unable to do work at home. With the workload of studies and projects building up, I decided it was time to stop being a bum.

My First Linux

Introduction

Last week, I finally made the decision to dual-boot Linux with Windows. This had been on my mind for a while, but it wasn’t because Linux was better or because I cared about privacy or anything novel like that. I did it purely for fun. Let me tell you all about it!

Motivation

One of my good friends, Ronnie, is really into Linux. We share a class together, and sometimes he would show me all the cool things he could do on his laptop, like terminal multiplexing and scrollable windows. “So what?” I thought. Windows was all I knew, and WSL worked fine for my needs. Yeah it was a kinda slow, and network issues always happen in WSL, but at least I didn’t have to do anything from scratch… Wait, why is that a bad thing?

Introduction

I wanted to start a blog, so I started one. This is my first blog post, and I want to use this chance to pave the way of my blogging journey. I always thought it corny to write out my thoughts and show them to the world, but maybe this is something I need right now.

Whenever interviewers ask me “What is your biggest weakness?” I always tell them: “I wait for a perfect idea that will never come.” I never make something new because someone else has done it better. I waste time learning best practices when what I know already works. I never finish a project because I think it’s too messy, or slow. I’m sick of waiting. This blog is my commitment to accepting small wins. If I’m going to create something that I am truly proud of, I need to be comfortable with failure.
